Be Prepared to Learn

Children's learning and homework is getting more and more involved. The assignments they are asked to do are challenging and time consuming. Whatever the task, you want them to be prepared to learn. They should have access to everything they need to successfully learn and complete school work. Here is a list of school supplies children need at home.

School Supplies for Home Use

#1-Dictionary-Starting from a young age, children to be familiar and comfortable with using a dictionary. The actual book, not one on the computer. The reason a dictionary is useful is because it teaches children many skills. A dictionary can teach alphabetizing skills, parts of speeches, syllabication, and correct word usage. Be sure to get a good dictionary that has a wide selection of words appropriate for your child's age. This dictionary should be readily available whenever your child needs it.

#2-Thesaurus-A thesaurus is another useful resource that children need to know how to use. Also in alphabetical order, it teaches children about antonyms and synonyms. Definitions and examples of use are also included. A thesaurus is a great way to develop your child's vocabualry.

#3-Internet Access-Children should have access to the internet. As parents, you can supervise internet activity. Children need computer skills and they must know how to use the internet itself. The internet can supplemnt what your child is learning in school. for example, if your child is learning about the solar system, you can further explore that learning by looking for facts, images, and videos on the internet. Technology will be a part of your child's future. Provide them with the skills they will need to be successful.

#4-Other Supplies-Your child should have pencils, pens, markers, crayons, colored pencils, paints, paper, scissors, glue, rulers, tape, craft supplies, and more. Children should have access to all materials necessary to learn. Sometimes, they want to draw. At other times, they want to write. After, they might want to build something. Within reason, you want to have as many supplies as possible to encourage creativity and learning.

Your child's learning should continue throughout their time at home. The world is their classroom, not just their classroom. Keep them motivated and learning by giving them access to education.
