Save Money on Your Electric Bill

Brrrrr! It has been so chilly this season. Our house is old. It has no insulation and no heating system of any kind. You may be lucky enough to have heating in your home. However, running your heating long enough to keep the family warm gets very expensive. There are many ways to save money on your electric bill.

Save Money on Your Electric Bill

1. Use an electric blanket. Not enough people take advantage of this great invention. Electric blankets have come a long way with their features. You can just plug it in and bundle up on the couch, in bed, in your office, etc.. Where ever you go, your warmth will go. Electric blankets range in features, size, and price. If you think you'll use it a lot, go for a nicer one. It is worth the extra money. I use a queen size blanket. It's a Soft Heat Luxury Electric Heated Warming blanket. It does an awesome job. Sunbeam also has a great selection of electric blankets. Using an electric blanket is a lot smarter money wise than heating an entire house.

2. Use a portable heater. These little things work wonders. You can get one for about $20 and up. Depending on the size and power, you can heat anywhere from a 400 square foot area to a 1600 square foot area. I have a very small one that I use when I'm on the couch or working on the computer. It's perfect for one or two people. I think I will have to get a bigger one if I want to heat up my whole house. Go with a bigger portable heater from the beginning. It will meet your needs and save you money. Heating the room that you are sitting or sleeping in is much more affordable than heating your whole house.

3. Layer up your clothes. I know this seems like an obvious solution. The key is layering clothes that are meant for cold weather. Buy yourself some long underwear, good quality sweaters, pants, beanies, gloves, and scarves. I have a robe that I could roam through Alaska in. It is the warmest most comfortable thing I own. Okay, it's not my most attractive article of clothing, but I'm lounging around the house. I'm comfortable, warm, and saving electricity. If you throw on an extra sweater or a beanie, you feel warmer and save money.

With money as tight as it is these days, anything you save here or there will help. Bundle up and enjoy cutting costs.
