With all of the knowledge we have and the research that has been done, we have the ability to care for our bodies like no generation before us.  There is a great deal of truth to, "You are what you eat."  If you want to be healthy, put healthy things into your body.  One of the healthiest foods we can consume-flax seedFlax seed benefits are amazing!  We have all the information about flax seed nutrition, now we need to use it.

What is Flax Seed?

Flax seed was an ancient crop of the Mesopotamians.  It is a member of the genus Linum in the family Linaceae.  Flax seed is not a grain, but it has similar vitamin and mineral qualities to grains.  There are two varieties of flax seed including brown flax seed and golden flax seed.  You can find additional flax seed products including flax seed capsules, flax seed oil, and flax seed cereal.  Flax seed, flax seed capsules, and flax seed oil all have comparable nutritional benefits.

Here is just a short list of flax seed benefits;

Flax seed is very low in cholesterol.  This can help prevent heart disease and strokes.

Flax seed contains omega-3 fatty acids.  This can help with inflammation which is a factor in heart disease, arthritis, asthma, and diabetes.

Flax seed is low in sodium.  This can help maintain healthier blood pressure.

Flax seed is a good source of magnesium.

Flax seed is a good source of phosphorous.

Flax seed is a good source of copper.

Flax seed is an excellent source of dietary fiber.  Eating a diet high in dietary fiber can lower cholesterol.  Flax seed is also great for weight loss due to its combination of healthy fat and high fiber.

How to Use Flax Seed

Flax seed is a versatile food which can be used in so many different ways.  A few easy ways to add flax seed to your diet include mixing the flax seed into yogurt, sprinkling flax seed on top of salads, and adding flax seed to smoothies.  You can cook and bake with flax seed, as well.  If adding it to your foods seems difficult, consider taking the flax seed capsules.  They are easy to take and affordable.  There are numerous cookbooks and recipes available for ways to incorporate flax seed into your diet.

Flax seed is high in fiber, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids.  It has so many nutritional benefits beyond what I have listed here.  You should exercise regularly and make healthy choices when it comes to eating.  Flax seed will give you benefits unlike any other seeds or grains.  Use flax seed and know that you are doing something great for your body.

Hi Hanna, Im lovin flax seed, I mix the oil in with my smoothie every morning.
