It amazes me that so many kids don't know how to play the classic board games anymore. The great thing about the older board games is that you had to develop a lot of skills to be successful at these games. You had to use math skills, problem solving skills, reasoning skills, and so many others depending on what game you were playing. You have to think when you play the classic board games. So, not only are you spending quality time with your children while playing these games. Your children are also learning valuable skills that they can use in life. They are becoming more intelligent by playing games. Can you say that about many video games? HereĀ are just a few of the great games kids should know how to play.

Games Kids Should Know How to Play

Parcheesi-Parcheesi is the classic game of India. This is a race and chase game and has been around for over a hundred years.

Sorry-This game has been around for about 80 years and is fun for all ages.

Yahtzee-Over 50 years old, this game requires luck and strategy to win.

Trouble-This is another race-and-chase game that is just fun for those who play it.

Life-This game is a winner of the Classic Award by the Parents' Choice Award. It is fun and educational.

Monopoly-Whether you play the long or short version, this game is engaging. Your children can learn to strategize and work on money and math skills.

Scrabble-This game is so great at developing spelling and vocabulary skills. It is great for the whole family.

Uno-This game is so much fun. You can play as an individual or on teams.

Payday-This game is so great at teaching money skills and budgeting. Strategy building is necessary for success.

Clue-A great mystery game that involves putting clues together and solving the murder. You have to use critical thinking skills for this one.

A few honorable mentions include Candyland, Pictionary, Chutes and Ladders, and Checkers. Actually, I could name quite a few more. The point is that board games are a great form of entertainment. Most of the games are less than $15 and you'll play these games repeatedly. Fun and learning for $15 can't be beat. One of my fondest memories growing up was playing board games with my dad. Let your children have the same fond memories.

One of the joys in my life now is playing board games with the six year old who lives here. When the younger ones go to bed we often sit and play for an hour. It's just become a weekend only thing because I have too many irons in the fire. Payday and Sorry are my favorites because they work well with only two players. I have watched my little player learn so much this year. At first money was by color now she actually knows 100, 500, 1000, 5000 and 10,000. She always wants to be the banker now. LOL I play "cards" with the three year old. He can't actually play games but he thinks he is when he gets colors and shapes correct.
